Back to Featured Artists

I was born and lived on a working farm for sixty-one years.  I moved to Fairfield Glade in 2000 and joined The Art Guild.  Is that why I like to paint barns?  I have no formal education in art, but I study books and videos for techniques.  I began painting with watercolor after my son gave a set to me for Christmas, 1984.  My first classes were with Rena Bouwer, Mark Polomachok, and Steve Blackburn, all Indiana artists.

The transparent colors and spontaneous movement of pigments are what I enjoy most about watercolor painting.  I have many happy accidents and some planned loss of control.  Wildflowers were a hobby of my mother and she introduced me to the study of these wonderful plants.  I like to  paint all flowers, barns and places I knew as a farmer in Indiana.  Mixed media, pencil rendering, and oil painting are also mediums I use sometimes.

I have worked with 4-H children to improve their artwork and prepare them with the basic knowledge to exhibit.  This was another rewarding experience for me.

My grandchildren and I enjoy painting together when we are together.  I think this is an important way to share the world with them.

The Monticello, Indiana Public Library asked me to paint a jungle mural on the walls of their children's reading room.  The children loved the mural, but I thought I would never finish the work as it was a large room.

I am a charter member of The Wabash Valley Watercolor Society in Lafayette, Indiana.  I was accepted into their juried and judged shows.

My paintings are in collections in Indiana, New York, Illinois, Connecticut, South Caroline, Tennessee, Washington, and Missouri.

How I would like for  people to experience the satisfaction and relaxation that I enjoy with a paintbrush, pigment and water.  Most of the time it is a mini vacation.

ART IS THE EXPRESSION OF THE PROFOUNDEST THOUGHTS IN THE SIMPLEST WAY.
